imagesFollowing its launch back in September 2012, the Apple iPhone 5 quickly became a huge commercial success for the California based manufacturer as was expected. However, a number of complaints were made about some of the phone’s features by users, and the phone has since received its fair share of bad press. However, this appears not to have affected sales too badly, with the phone continuing to sell by the millions.

Although the iPhone 5 has been on the market for less than six months, there have already been dozens of rumours circulating around the internet regarding the next instalment of the iPhone series. Smartphone enthusiasts have been speculating about an iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 or even an iPhone Mini being launched at some point later this year.

It appears that Apple does have plans to launch an iPhone this year, according to an article over at uSwitch. It explains that Peter Misek, a noted analyst at Jefferies has stated in a note to investors that Apple is to begin production trials of an iPhone 6 in March. He states that the device will pack a 4.8 inch display, much larger than that used by any previous iPhone model. This is no doubt an attempt by Apple to compete with the increasingly popular phablet handsets such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, HTC Butterfly and Sony Xperia Z which are quickly becoming popular phones. Although Apple has previously claimed that it will not produce a larger screened phone, or a more affordable version of the iPhone, Misek also states that an iPhone Mini may be in the pipeline, a device which will probably be aimed towards the major markets where such phones are extremely popular, particularly those with the Android operating system. Therefore this will be an area where Apple will be keen to compete.

Do you think it is a good idea for Apple to launch a phablet device, or do you think it should stick with regular sized smartphones? Have you had problems with the iPhone 5, or are you happy with the phone? Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments section.
